Still struggling with lag and poor performance in GTA IV? Don’t worry—this guide will show you how to fix lag and significantly boost your FPS using just two powerful mods. I used these in my latest video, and the results were impressive. Whether you’re on a modern rig or an older setup, these tweaks can make GTA 4 feel like a whole new experience.
Mod 1: Fusion Fix – Unlock Better Graphics & Stability
What it does:
Fusion Fix is a modern patch that solves a ton of issues in GTA 4, including:
- Bad frame pacing (stutter fix)
- Cutscene timing bugs
- Poor compatibility with modern GPUs
- Missing shadows and reflections
Note: It also includes fixes for mouse acceleration and Alt+Tab crashes. Massive quality-of-life upgrade!
✅ Mod 2: Commandline Tweaks – Boost FPS & Performance
What it does:
GTA 4 uses a hidden config system called commandline.txt. By adding specific commands, you can unlock higher performance and stabilize your framerate.
How to apply:
- Open your GTA 4 folder
- Create a new text file and name it:
commandline.txt - Paste the above commands into the file and save

Bonus Tips:
- Run the game in compatibility mode (Windows 7 or 8)
- Use DXVK if you’re on Vulkan-supported GPUs
- Keep drivers updated, especially for NVIDIA and AMD cards
